Greetings Ladislao,
Article from Trinidad Guardian where Abbey Alumni old boy Gabriel Faria is the CEO, Dennis Gurley Board Member :
Let’s be part of the 100 year celebration :
Along a winding road, high on a hill, overlooking the Caroni Plains is The Abbey of Our Lady of Exile, popularly known as Mt St Benedict.
Founded on October 6, 1912, by Abbot Dom Mayeul de Caigney of the monastery of San Sebastian, Bahia, Brazil, after the Order of St Benedict of Italy, Abbot John Perreira and monks are looking forward to the 100th anniversary celebration in 2012. In preparation for this auspicious occasion, the Abbey has invited Irish monk Dom Mark Tierney to write Mt St Benedict’s history.
Perreira said: “We would be 100 in 2012. We would like to celebrate 100 years with the writing of a more detailed history of Mt St Benedict. We want something on which we can put our stamp on our 100th anniversary. It is something of which our society could be proud”.
We are upgrading our archives to preserve the records of the monastery which has become a historical site. We are trying to bring it up to international standards. Tierney is world-renowned and we are in safe hands.”
(THE CIRCULAR WOULD LIKE TO HELP, WITH FR.BENEDICT´S PHOTO REGISTRY, THESE ARE NOT IN “SAFE HANDS” JUST AS THE SCHOOL´S ALUMNI LIST WAS NOT IN “SAFE HANDS”, HAVING DISAPPEARED. FR. BENEDICT´S PHOTOS HAVE NOT BEEN CATALOGED AND HAVE NO NAMES AND THIS IS WHERE WE CAN AND WOULD LIKE TO HELP. PHOTO´S WITHOUT NAMES ARE OF LITTLE USE TO HISTORY. Ed)
Beyond Mt St Benedict walls, beyond the stone walls to the main entrance of the compound, at the heart of the monastery is the Mt St Benedict Church.
Abbot John Perreira said: “People from all walks of life...all religions...come and spend quiet time in the church. People do not identify it as a Catholic Church... Hindus, Muslims, Baptists, Christians, Catholics...people from all faiths come and spend time here.
Some people come at the point of suicide. After a bit of quiet contemplation and meditation, they go back down the hill refreshed, to face the reality of the situation with which they are dealing. They leave with a more positive impression.”
Flowers are left at the feet of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima.
Flickering candles cast a soft glow. The light illuminates St Benedict, who clutches a chapter, reminding monastics to put “Christ Before All.”
Beyond the reception area, a door leads to a pathway overhung with pretty blossoms from the trees on the sloping the hills. Birds chirp on outstretched boughs. The view from the top of this secluded haven presents a delightful panorama of villages and towns nestled in the distance.
At the end of the walkway, is the Mt St Benedict Credit Union which has evolved to include the wider society. Further along, is a former The Abbey School, which was converted into a rehabilitation centre for cocaine addicts and gamblers.
Apart from a yoghurt factory, the remaining 6,000 acres are under mango and cocoa trees.
Just as they protect the water basin which engenders life and first attracted the pioneering monks, the abbey clings tenaciously to the Benedictine way of life.

Thanks for the info, Shaun.
May I ask you for a recent picture of yourself, please - for our "Roll Call" file?
Also, it would be really appreciated if you could drop us a one-paragraph email, explaining your past since leaving MSB.
I'm sure your former buddies would like to hear about you.
Thanks.

Michael Gianetti and Ian Gianetti,
My older and younger brothers both attended MSB.
Any Gioannetti are only similar by phonetic sound not by spelling or relationship
Kind regards

Shaun,
By any chance, are you related to any of the other Gioanetti boys who were MSB students?

You're correct, Glen.
I've found his name on the dB.
The reason why I couldn't find it in the first place is because I had the spelling wrong.
I was searching for Gioanetti, whereas his name is spelled, apparently, "Gianetti".
Thanks for the help, anyway.

Glen,
Was Shaun Gianetti an Old Boy at MSB?
I have no previous information on him, but if you have any I'd appreciate if you can please let me have it, for the database.
I'll then write to him myself and add him to the list.
Thanks.

Hi Ladislao
Please find attached for your information a copy of the Minutes of the recent meeting of the Association.
You will note from the minutes that I (inadvertently) never registered you as a director of the Association.
It was an oversight on my part for which I apologise.
Having brought the matter to the attention of Joe and Chris we considered it best to (re-appoint you as from the date of your indicating your willingness to accept such appointment.
We considered it preferable to correct the omission this way otherwise we would incur penalties at the Companies Registry for not giving notice within the prescribed time.
In the circumstances please indicate your willingness to be appointed a member and elected as a Director of the Association.
Upon hearing from you with your agreement I shall proceed to file the necessary notice with the Registrar of Companies.

Hi Joe and Chris;
I am pleased to inform you that I have heard from Ladislao that he accepts our proposal that he be appointed as a director.
I shall accordingly proceed to file the necessary Notice at the Companies Registry.
Ladislao asked if we have any plans for next year, and would like to have something to publish for the 100th anniversary.
Please drop him a line if you have any ideas.
We need to activate the ASAA and have a get together.

Hi Ladislao;
Great to hear from you.
The economy here in T&T is still rather depressed and there is a general lack of confidence.
We are still under a state of emergency (soe) with an 11 PM to 4 AM curfew in many areas.
There has been a slight reduction in crime (both serious and petty) and generally the population feels safer, however many businesses, in particular the restaurant and night-life businesses, are suffering because of the need to close early.
Although many are happy with the soe a growing number of persons want the curfew to be lifted.
Frankly I’m not impressed with the need for the soe in the first place.
I would have thought that the police should have been able to handle the crime problem without the need for a soe.
[P.S. I never did hear from you in response to my e-mails as to whether you approved of your belatedly being appointed as a Director of Abbey School Alumni Association. Please let me know, one way or the other whether you will accept to be appointed.]
Fondest regards,
Dennis Gurley
