Dear Friends,
The following message was received from: Richard de Verteuil
---------------------------------------
You are doing a sterling job, Ladislao, keep it up. I was at the Mount in 1949, 50 and 51 and well remember the priests you talk about. I often wonder what happened to some of the lay masters like Mr. Achong. My favourite teacher was Fr. Peter, whose favourite expression was, "Ya now, boys, be good ".He taught French and was a very gentle and soft spoken priest.
I also remember Fr. Chrys in whose dorm I spent a couple of years. He was a tyrant and a bully as I recall. Liked nothing better than making the boys kneel down for hours on end and confiscating marbles whenever he got a bit short.
He had a large sweet jar in which he kept them. He was a prolific marbles player and made up the rules as he went along! I remember some 50 and 100 kiao(!) games he played, using a ball bearing instead of a marble. That was so it was more difficult to 'farts'! I must say though that he was quite accurate.
I also remember tops season. I once had a purple heart top which my Dad had turned for me in the company’s machine shop. It was a wickedly heavy device and I had to blunt the nail on which it spun to prevent it from boring through my hand as I carried it along spinning. Unfortunately I do not have any photographs of Mount. I wish I had now. It was not until about three years later that I took up the hobby and used to do all my own processing at my next school, Stonyhurst College in Lancashire, England. There I had a good friend in the Jesuit who was the school photographer and he let me use the darkroom. I continued for many years until colour slides became too much of a bother and then I took up other hobbies.
Must dash.
Cheers for now,
Richard de Verteuil (Roger Henderson is my cousin! - if he is from Pointe a Pierre)

I am glad that some of you are writing these long remembrances; I appreciate those that write longer than I do. I have made up a rule for me to follow, if the writing is one page long then it is enough. Since this paragraph completes the page, I must go and must keep you in suspense until next week when our guest will be…………..???

Hello Ladislao,
Here are some photos from my trip to St. Petersburg Florida, to visit with my brother Pedro and his family.
I have also been in contact with Allan Romeo who lives in Atlanta, Georgia and here is his number 404-272-9543 cell.
And also been in contact with Allan Chandler who is living in Houston Texas.
His numbers is 713-503-2526.
This morning being back from my vacation, I got up and the phone rang and it was Henry Lincoln from Enterprise, Alabama his number is 334-477-6432.
He is a Trinidadian that went to the abbey school around the 1965 or so.
Well I hope everything is going good back in Venezuela.
Un abrazo a todos .

Hello Henry,
How are you doing?
Thank for returning my call.
I have sent the news to Ladislao Kertesz.
So he will be sending you a letter and circulars.
If you do have some free time.
Send Ladislao a little paragraph as to your life after the abbey school and if you remember the names of your old friends while at the mount.
Okey my friend, call any time, maybe we can arrange a meeting some day.
 God bless. Till next time.

Laz,
I think that some of the OB's might be interested to see that the Abbey School actually got into acting, once upon a time (around 1965, it seems).

Hi Cornel,
I thought you might enjoy this photograph.
It's a "Voosh".
How you guys didn't make it to Hollywood I'll never know.
I think Br. Oswald produced this play based on a doomed sub.
Do you recall the play's name?
Actors: Jose Fernandes, Robert Azar, Cornel DeFreitas, Michael DeVerteuil and Richard Clark.
Regards,
Terrence

You will not believe how I have longed to make contact with you.
I have searched phone books etc but had no luck."
Recently Winston Ramsahai, had the same problem. I think you guys need to discover a great new invention, the white pages and the internet. Try the link below
PS I hear Joseph Beaumont (Cobeaux) is heavy into Politics Now. Joe if this is true, you were always a decent sort and not arrogant, please get like the other Old Boys that went into politics (Note they were both day boys, no offense Shaun or Ian)..... lol

That would be a nice project, I'd say, but frankly,
I doubt the viability of the idea myself, as I very much doubt that the expenditure in terms of time, effort and financial outlay would be justified by any potential revenues.
Maybe I'm just being a pessimist, but in light of the extremely poor reception given to one or two projects in which I was personally involved, e.g. for one, the Deaconate Project, when only one OB living in Trinidad actually contributed to the gift we'd planned for the 20 new deacons,
I'd be wary of presenting yet another project to the OB's. Apathy abounds, it seems, and again, I'm not even sure who is in charge of the ASAA today, now that Joe Berment has resigned his position as President.
I'm still holding not the box of medals, etc. which you had given me, in the hope that they might eventually find their way into a future museum.
They're safe, and I'm happy to send them all down if and when something positive ever emerges along the lines of a museum.
But to date, I see no evidence of any museum being discussed by anyone.
Sadly.
NB
(OK, Nigel, take your camera and start taking photos, we would not want to wait till the LAST day, Editor)

Nigel,
I'm sitting here thinking I would be more than willing to return to Mount to setup run the Old Boys Museum, perhaps I merely daydreaming but that's where I am today.
